Achieving Prosperity (overview)

Achieving prosperity: 5 part series

'Punctuated Reform' is part of a 5 Part series. Each part will be published when finished. Private access is available to people for collaboration or early (draft) review. A 'Punctuated Reform crowd creates Global Village' group is available to discuss and collaborate.

To understand wisdom and Network Society, you must read 'Country' page first

Sectors are a subset of the Network Society. Each sector is a subset of the Network Society. Within a Network Society, sectors and countries use a common method ( things = books = sectors = countries = global village) to exchange wisdom (data, information, community, collaboration, knowledge wisdom). There are exponential benefits from using a common method of exchanging wisdom across individuals, families, sectors, countries, regions and the global village, rather than fragmenting wisdom and sectors using an Industrial Economy model. Network Society development model enables citizens to actively participate in sector governance and service delivery within the community, rather than citizen non-participation because sector governance and service delivery is isolated in hierarchies outside the community.

NOTE: Country pages provide a comprehensive introduction to the Network Society development model. Sector pages only offer brief extracts and some sector specific content. To understand wisdom, you MUST READ a country page for a comprehensive overview of the Network Society development model.

Hardware complexity to Software simplicity

The complexity of physics can be simplified to e=mc2. The complexity of society can be simplified to Things = Books = Sectors = Countries = Global Village. This formula represents the design of software that organises Network Society. An Industrial Economy divides people using hierarchies within countries and globally using physical (ie hardware) tools to organise society. Network Society unites people with few networks in sectors, countries and Network Democracy around the world using virtual (ie software) tools to organise society. The primary means for organising society becomes networks of people organised by software at zero marginal cost with immediate outcomes, rather than isolated, physical hierarchies using expensive infrastructure with uncertain outcomes over long timeframes. The 'Global Village' becomes a mesh of countries and sectors. Each country is unified by software as '1 Country'. All countries are unified by software as '1 Global Village'. Network Society simply comes 'Over the Top' (OTT) of society and virtually organises every 'thing' in the cloud.

A switch from physical (hardware) to virtual (software) to organise society

People in networks become primary means to organise society

A shift from local and vertical ... to horizontal and global

Network Society adds 4 new features to Industrial Economy

Status quo is exhausted and obsolete

The existing approaches to economic development use obsolete structures and methods. These structures and methods are physical structures which isolate Productive Knowledge in buildings and information systems. These approaches also suffer from diminishing returns. Society has achieved much in the last 100 years. However, the status quo simply can’t deliver further prosperity, transparency, productivity, accountability or governance. The GDP growth and innovation of the Industrial economy has ended and future GDP growth is likely be half that (or negative) of the last 100 years. At exponential cost, governments have prevented an evolutionary and inevitable Shift to the next stage of economic development. The overdue Third Industrial Revolution tirelessly endeavours to evolve society from the Industrial Economy development model to a Network Society development model.

Productivity no longer drives wealth in society

Industrial Economy stagnation to Network Society prosperity

Countries and people have been reduced to wealth transfers, not wealth creation.

Evolution stalled? Why stop at social?

Social networks restructured social interaction by combining "Things" into "books" and sharing them globally. Every book contains a digestible and comprehensive statement of past, present and future regarding the social activities of a person, or of a particular thing? Why doesn't every other sector of society work the same way? Health, education, equity market, innovation, government, governance and every other sectors can operate the same way. The outcome is a Network Society. Why has the "things" into shared books approach not been deployed to other sectors?

Evolution means 'more with less'!
new sectors? new society models?

Evolution to other sectors
Why stop at social?

The tireless 'more with less' evolution of our society simply means less people produce more output in every sector over time. Without new sectors in a stagnant Industrial Economy to provide employment, unemployment is inevitable. The assumption of one person's expenditure is another's income in an Industrial Economy becomes obsolete. Society's success means that a welfare payment to look for employment becomes a 'basic income' which acknowledges employment may simply not be available. A declining worker-dependent ratio resulting from demographics adds to the challenges. The Industrial Economy development model is not able to fund a 'basic income' or retirement for larger numbers of people. The productivity gains from the overdue Third Industrial Revolution and a Network Society is required to fund basic income and enhance society by organising 'contribution' directly between everyone.

R. Buckminster Fuller quotes:

Don't fight forces, use them.(1932)

This is not a visible revolution and it is not political. You’re dealing with the invisible world of technology. Politics is absolutely hopeless. That’s why everything has gone wrong. You have ninety-nine percent of the people thinking “politics,” and hollering and yelling. And that won’t get you anywhere. Hollering and yelling won’t get you across the English Channel. It won’t reach from continent to continent; you need electronics for that, and you have to know what you’re doing. Evolution has been at work doing all these things so it is now possible. Nobody has consciously been doing it. The universe is a lot bigger than you and me. We didn’t invent it. (1981)

We must do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian-Darwinian theory, he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living. (1970)

Of course, our failures are a consequence of many factors, but possibly one of the most important is the fact that society operates on the theory that specialization is the key to success, not realizing that specialization precludes comprehensive thinking. (1963)

We are in an age that assumes the narrowing trends of specialization to be logical, natural, and desirable. Consequently, society expects all earnestly responsible communication to be crisply brief. . . . In the meantime, humanity has been deprived of comprehensive understanding. Specialization has bred feelings of isolation, futility, and confusion in individuals. It has also resulted in the individual's leaving responsibility for thinking and social action to others. Specialization breeds biases that ultimately aggregate as international and ideological discord, which, in turn, leads to war. (1975)

It is essential to release humanity from the false fixations of yesterday, which seem now to bind it to a rationale of action leading only to extinction.(1975)

It is now highly feasible to take care of everybody on Earth at a ‘higher standard of living than any have ever known.’ It no longer has to be you or me. Selfishness is unnecessary and henceforth unrationalizable as mandated by survival. (1981)

'Trapped Transition' or 'Punctuated Reform'

The global community is in 'Trapped Transition' between Industrial Economy and Network Society. 'Punctuated reform' and the Shift to the next stage of economic development can occur by design with a proactive and comprehensive plan, or by default with crisis, collapse or war. History shows us that the latter is more likely. Change rarely occurs without crisis, collapse or war. In the Age of Turbulence, old ways crumble, but the new can not take flight. Let’s escape 'Trapped Transition' by implementing 'punctuated reform' to move from centralised stagnation to distributed power and prosperity. We could be in 'Trapped Transition' for another 50 years, or complete 'Punctuated Reform' in 2-5 years.

R. Buckminster Fuller quotes:

Humanity is now experiencing history's most difficult evolutionary transformation. (1983)

There is more recognition now that things are changing, but not because there is a political move to do it. It is simply a result of the information being there. Our survival won’t depend on political or economic systems. It’s going to depend on the courage of the individual to speak the truth, and to speak it lovingly and not destructively. It’s saying what you really know and feel is the truth, in all directions. Our greatest vulnerability lies in the amount of misinformation and misconditioning of humanity.

There’s a built-in resistance to letting humanity be a success. Each one claims that their system is the best one for coping with inadequacy. We have to make them all obsolete. We need to find within technology that there is something we can do which is capable of taking care of everybody, and to demonstrate that this is so. (1981)

Third Industrial Revolution - only by restructuring human time and attention

Industrial Revolutions mean the world achieves so much more with so much less. The First Industrial Revolution was a 600 hundred fold increase in productivity in agriculture. At one time 25% of the population produced the food for a few hundred million people. Now, 1% of the population produces all the food for 7 billion. A small number of countries produce food for the world. The Second Industrial Revolution resulted in a handful of countries producing most of the industrial goods for the world. China and Germany come to mind. The Third Industrial Revolution brings a rapid jump in productivity in services with more services produced through global or coutnry platforms using less people. The 'more with less' evolution is occurring by default and we are witnessing increasing unemployment. New sectors or opportunities for contribution need to be created for the displaced. The impact of the Third Industrial Revolution is profound and can only be achieved by restructuring human time and attention.

Network Society double, triple or quadruple productivity of every employee by restructuring human time and attention… sources include reclaiming travel time, reclaiming identified wasted time, reclaiming unproductive work time and gamification.

Network Society also captures effort outside hierarchies and across the world which means Global Village' lifts human potential output from 2.5% (in an Industrial Economy) to 23.5% ( using Network Society development model). Network Society can produce 9 times more than the Industrial Economy development model. It achieves this by (1) increasing individual productive time, (2) capturing wisdom beyond the boundary of the hierarchy and (3) capturing wisdom around the world.

Double, triple or quadruple productive time

Network Society has 9 times more potential

Network Society vision/purpose: collective wisdom, prosperity and satisfaction

The 'meaning of life' and purpose of society is successive accumulation of collective wisdom, prosperity and satisfaction by individuals, countries and globally. ‘More with less’ Evolution delivers this life and purpose (by default), but it's delayed by ‘Trapped Transition’ (10-50 years). Wisdom Networks and ‘Global Village’ delivers it (by design with ‘Punctuated Reform’) with 50 networks in 2- 5 years.

  • VISION/PURPOSE: The meaning of 'life' and Purpose of Society is collective wisdom, prosperity and satisfaction.
  • COLLECTIVE WISDOM is the successive accumulation of the 6 elements of wisdom (data, information, community, collaboration, knowledge, wisdom) by individuals, countries and globally
  • COLLECTIVE PROSPERITY is the successive accumulation of the 8 types of capital by individuals, countries and globally
  • COLLECTIVE SATISFACTION is the successive accumulation and satisfaction of human needs (originally identified by Maslow) by individuals, countries and globally
  • SOCIETY GROWTH: The purpose of a Network Society is to maximise 'Society Growth' by maximising collective wisdom, collective prosperity and collective satisfaction at ‘Zero Marginal Cost‘ in sectors, countries and institutions around the world for the benefit of people.
  • NETWORK SOCIETY VISION: The vision of a Network Society is to accelerate the ‘More with less’ evolution that is crowd creating a ‘Global Village’ by replacing local, centralised vertical hierarchies with a 50+ global, distributed, horizontal networks across sectors and countries over 2-5 years.
  • NETWORK SOCIETY PURPOSE: The purpose of a Network Society is to organise the ‘things’ of society, collective wisdom, collective prosperity and collective satisfaction at 'Zero Marginal Cost' in sectors and countries around the world for the benefit of people.
  • INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY PURPOSE: The purpose of an Industrial Economy is to monetise societies ‘things’, centralise material/financial capital, centralise power and focus centralised power and capital for the benefit of government, industries, few countries and few individuals.
  • INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY VISION: The vision of Industrial Economy is materialism, survival, confusion, low utilisation, maximum consumption, fragmentation and inequality.

Everyone has a role to play in a country, sector or institution to drive 'Punctuated Reform' and transition to achieve 'Global Village in 2 years!

R. Buckminster Fuller quotes:

Humanity is now experiencing history's most difficult evolutionary transformation. (1983)

Neither the great political or financial powers of the world nor the population in general realize that the engineering-chemical-electronic revolution now makes it possible to produce many more technical devices with ever less material. We can now take care of everybody at a higher standard of living than anybody has ever known. It does not have to be “you or me,” so selfishness is unnecessary and war is obsolete. This has never been done before. Only twelve years ago technology reached the point where this could be done. Since then it has made it ever so much easier to do.

'Dear reader, traditional human power structures and their reign of darkness are about to be rendered obsolete.'

Whether it is to be Utopia or Oblivion will be a touch-and-go relay race right up to the final moment. . . . Humanity is in ‘final exam’ as to whether or not it qualifies for continuance in Universe (1981)

You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

The youth of humanity all around our planet are intuitively revolting from all sovereignties and political ideologies. The youth of Earth are moving intuitively toward an utterly classless, raceless, omnicooperative, omniworld humanity. Children freed of the ignorantly founded educational traditions and exposed only to their spontaneously summoned, computer-stored and -distributed outflow of reliable-opinion-purged, experimentally verified data, shall indeed lead society to its happy egress from all misinformedly conceived, fearfully and legally imposed, and physically enforced customs of yesterday. They can lead all humanity into omnisuccessful survival as well as entrance into an utterly new era of human experience in an as-yet and ever-will-be fundamentally mysterious Universe.

Basic Income (Industrial Economy survival) vs. Minimum Life (Network Society contribution

An Industrial Economy reduces a person’s (potential) life to materialism, confusion, isolation and survival and the prospect of a ‘basic income’ (for unemployment or retirement) that an Industrial Economy can not afford. This is not life. A Network Society empowers every individual with collective prosperity (beyond materialism), collective satisfaction and collective wisdom in a highly productive society structure that can not only fund a ‘Basic Income’, but also motivates individuals with a bonus from contribution to ‘things’ and the opportunity to contribute to any individual or society purpose in any sector or country. A comprehensive and detailed explanation is available here.

Network Society plan: Punctuated Reform crowd creates 'Global Village' in 2 years

This is a private group.

Our groups pursue wisdom

Our Groups pursue Wisdom (data, information, community, collaboration, knowledge, wisdom). The purpose of our groups is to organise wisdom for each community of common interest - countries, sectors or explore new applications. Wiser groups are separated from irrational ones with 4 key attributes (diversity of opinion, independence, decentralisation, aggregation) and the 8 conjectures capture the 'wisdom of crowds' approach. Our groups will be moderated (people banned and comments removed) where wisdom is not contributed. Groups are not a place for irrationality, they are a place for constructive statements that genuinely explore the potential of a wisdom network in achieving prosperity within a community of common interest. Why you think something is exponentially more valuable than what you you think. Unprofessional, unconstructive or worthless contribution will result in comments removed and members removed from the group.

We aim to provide a safe productive place for all stakeholders in society to develop wisdom about the possibility of a wisdom network in achieving community outcomes. With this in mind, we have established groups in Google+, Facebook and specific country networks. Some are public, some are private with strict rules regarding confidentiality. We can not advance wisdom without groups, but all groups must pursue wisdom. Your participation in groups should be considered an enhanced private conversation in a community with a common interest in achieving wisdom within a specific community. Groups also provide the means to achieve global wisdom in our content (introduction documents, countries and sectors) by harnessing global and local wisdom across the world. Our groups are listed here. Our Google Drive folders are listed here.

NOTE:To be accepted, each member's profile must include a photo and must reveal how they can contribute wisdom to the group.

Our people contribute wisdom in our, or your, groups (not evangelism)

We can also participate in private groups established for specific purposes. Our team would be pleased to participate in groups established by others. Please contact us if you would like one of Our people to participate and contribute in a group established by you. Our people will always focus on the applicability of Wisdom Networks given the unique attributes of a specific community of common interest. We will not evangelise. We aim to contribute and encourage the creation of wisdom. If we don’t contribute ‘wisdom’ to your group, then we would expect our comments and people to be removed as well.
